Watch Cricket in Sri Lanka
One of the world's most passionate cricket nations — iconic stadiums, legendary heroes, and unforgettable fan culture.
Cricket — Sri Lanka's National Passion
In Sri Lanka, cricket is far more than a sport — it is a religion, a shared identity, and the heartbeat of the nation. From village fields where barefoot children play with improvised bats, to sold-out international stadiums where 35,000 fans erupt in unison, cricket touches every corner of Sri Lankan life.
Sri Lanka became a Test-playing nation in 1982, but it was the 1996 Cricket World Cup triumph that transformed cricket from a beloved sport into a source of profound national pride. That win — achieved against all odds — unleashed a golden generation of players that included Aravinda de Silva, Arjuna Ranatunga, Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumar Sangakkara, and Mahela Jayawardene.
For tourists, attending a cricket match in Sri Lanka is one of the most authentic and joyful experiences the country offers. The grounds are stunning, the fans are welcoming, and the cricket is always competitive. Whether you watch a Test at the iconic Galle Fort ground or a T20 night match under floodlights in Colombo, you will leave with memories to last a lifetime.

Sri Lanka's Cricket Legends
The players who shaped the golden era of Sri Lankan cricket and inspired a generation.

Kumar Sangakkara
Wicket-keeper Batsman · 2000 – 2015
12,400 Test runs · 134 Tests
Widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Sangakkara is the second-highest run-scorer in Test history. A graceful left-hander, brilliant wicket-keeper, and inspirational captain, he led Sri Lanka to numerous victories. His 2015 World Cup form — four consecutive centuries — cemented his legendary status.

Muttiah Muralitharan
Off-Spin Bowler · 1992 – 2011
800 Test wickets · 133 Tests
The greatest wicket-taker in the history of cricket. Muralitharan's unique bowling action, prodigious spin and relentless accuracy made him virtually unplayable. He took more wickets in both Tests and ODIs than any bowler in history, and his 800th Test wicket — his very last ball in international cricket — is one of sport's most iconic moments.

Mahela Jayawardene
Batsman & Captain · 1997 – 2015
11,814 Test runs · 149 Tests
One of the most elegant batsmen to ever hold a bat, Jayawardene scored runs all around the world with extraordinary grace and technique. He holds the record for the highest individual Test score at Lord's (180). As captain, he guided Sri Lanka to the 2014 T20 World Cup title and led his country with dignity and tactical intelligence.
Aravinda de Silva
Batsman · 1984 – 2002
6,361 Test runs · 93 Tests
The hero of the 1996 Cricket World Cup, de Silva's performances in the semi-final and final were the stuff of legend. He scored a century in the final against Australia and took two wickets — a match-winning all-round display that sealed Sri Lanka's first World Cup triumph. His stroke-making was breathtaking and he remains a national icon.

Lasith Malinga
Fast Bowler · 2004 – 2021
101 Tests · 338 wickets in ODIs
"Slinga Malinga" — the round-arm yorker king with a unique slingy bowling action that terrified batsmen worldwide. Malinga is the only bowler to take four wickets in four consecutive balls in international cricket and the leading wicket-taker in T20 International history. His ability to deliver perfectly timed toe-crushers at pace made him one of cricket's most feared bowlers.
