The waters off Mirissa are among the best places on earth to see blue whales — the largest animals that have ever lived on our planet. From November to April, they gather in the Indian Ocean's warm feeding lanes just 10 kilometres offshore. The boat trip is an adventure in itself: spinner dolphins race the bow at dawn, flying fish burst from the water, and then — a blue whale surfaces. Nothing quite prepares you for the scale of it.

Pre-Dawn Pick-Up
Early departure from Colombo or your hotel to reach Mirissa harbour before the boats depart.
Mirissa Harbour Departure
Board the boat as dawn breaks. The ocean is usually calm and the colours extraordinary. Safety briefing by the crew.
Spinner Dolphin Encounter
Within minutes of departure, spinner dolphin pods typically approach the boat — leaping, spinning, riding the bow wave in groups of 50–200.
Blue Whale Search
The captain and lookouts search for the tell-tale blow — a column of water vapour 10 metres high. Blue whales are sighted on the vast majority of trips (November–April).
Return to Harbour
Return to Mirissa harbour with memories that will last a lifetime.
Mirissa Beach
Spend the morning on Mirissa's beautiful crescent beach — swim, eat a beachside breakfast, explore the famous Coconut Tree Hill viewpoint.
Lunch & Return
Beachside seafood lunch, then drive back to your hotel, arriving approximately 3:30–4:30 PM.
